Meet the Head Coach: Amiyah Pinkney
Mt. Zion Prep Academy is proud to welcome Coach Amiyah Pinkney (known affectionately as “Coach A”) to lead our volleyball program. Transitioning from a decorated career on the court to a dedicated mentor on the sidelines, Coach A brings over seven years of elite competitive experience to MZPA.
A former standout multi-sport athlete, Coach A excelled as both an Outside Hitter and Libero, earning numerous accolades for her offensive and defensive prowess. Her mission is simple: to transform high-potential athletes into disciplined leaders by fostering technical precision and mental toughness.
The MZPA Volleyball Philosophy
Coach A’s program is built on the mantra: “Developing leaders through discipline, academics, and athletic excellence.” The program operates on three non-negotiable pillars:
Academic Non-Negotiables: We believe academic excellence is the foundation of success. Our athletes are held to exceptional grade standards to prepare them for the rigors of college and professional life.
Fundamental Mastery: Through high-intensity, purposeful drill design, we focus on the “small things” that lead to big wins. Mastery of the basics builds the confidence needed to execute under pressure.
Character & Accountability: We cultivate a culture of personal responsibility. By identifying individual strengths, we foster a cohesive team environment where respect for the game and the process is paramount.
Technical Expertise
- Player Development: Position-specific training (Outside Hitter/Libero focus).
- System Strategy: Advanced defensive systems and serve-receive schemes.
- Athletic Conditioning: Integrating explosive power and agility training.
- Mentorship: Fostering leadership, time management, and sportsmanship in young leaders.
